2005 Dona Paula Malbec

Here's another bottle that fits into my new series- wines that were ranked 90 points or above (this one by Wine Spectator magazine) but are priced under $20.  I have to admit up front, this one fits in a little more loosely than I would like since Wine Spectator reviewed the 2007 vintage, but since both were rock star years for the region, and the fact that this bottle was so good, I'm going to lump it in the same category.  It's a bottle priced below $20 that you should try.

I found it for $16.99, and it was clearly a step up from what I think are still very good Malbecs priced in that $10-12 range.  As I've mentioned before Malbecs just keep getting more popular and when I purchased this bottle the shelf space for Malbec at my local store seems to have grown by another 10 bottles.  It's an exciting time to be drinking these wines, and the value is just too good to pass up.

This is a very refined Malbec, and since Dona Paula makes other very high end wines, this bottle also follows my philosophy that good winemakers don't know how to make a bad wine. Definitely one to try.
