2005 Crandall-Brooks Meritage

Borderline undrinkable.  Sorry World Market.  You guys make some great furniture (I love my outdoor set and I 'm writing this on a fantastic kitchen table we bought) and occasionally I score some great deals on wine, but this bottle is among the worst I have had in a while.

Is this wine?  I spent just a minute on some Google searches and couldn't turn up much about the vineyard, except that it is a World Market brand?  I'm confused and it's really not worth spending the time researching since my mind's made up.  This bottle was wrapped up nicely, it's a big thick bottle, on sale (for $12.99) and I had a screaming baby with me in the store, so I had to make a quick decision.  That's my excuse.

Avoid this bottle.  I could tell on the pour that something was up.  It was super light in color, smelled weak and sat in the glass a bit awkwardly I guess.  The taste is almost non-existent.  It's a wine without a finish.  I'm still not quite sure what was going on.

Arghhh! I generally love Meritage wines (especially those from Napa or Alexander Valley) and I was shocked to see this 2005 Napa Meritage from a winery I never heard of on clearance at World Market for $8.38 (reg: $14.99). Wow, what a deal.

Like an idiot, I bought their last 10 bottles and smiled like the Cheshire Cat all the way home. (Clearly, the World Market wine buyer is the only one smiling.)

This stuff is complete swill! I suppose their Meritage blend includes H20 and sweat from a goat, because this is one watery, stinky vintage.

I'm too cheap to throw the last 9 bottles away, so I suspect I'll drag these to parties (mixed with a couple of good bottles) and secretly add them to my friends' collections.

Shame on World Market for ever offering this crap. If they keep this up, they'll lose all of my business to Costco. (At least the Costco wine buyers seem to care about quality.)

Sounds like we had a similar experience. It being summer, I guess you could always make Sangria with your leftovers.
