Santa Carolina has a Reserva and a Reserva de Familia line. The Reserva de Familia is the higher-end version.

Comment on 2006 Stratton Lummis Artists' Series Carneros Chardonnay

Couldn't agree with this review more. Had the pleasure of learning about this wine in May at a wine tasting event in Kiawah, SC. Remembered the boat on the label and was happy to find it stocked regularly at TOTAL WINE! It is worth stocking up on this one there.

Comment on 2005 Crandall-Brooks Meritage

Sounds like we had a similar experience. It being summer, I guess you could always make Sangria with your leftovers.

Comment on 2005 Crandall-Brooks Meritage

Arghhh! I generally love Meritage wines (especially those from Napa or Alexander Valley) and I was shocked to see this 2005 Napa Meritage from a winery I never heard of on clearance at World Market for $8.38 (reg: $14.99). Wow, what a deal.

Like an idiot, I bought their last 10 bottles and smiled like the Cheshire Cat all the way home. (Clearly, the World Market wine buyer is the only one smiling.)

This stuff is complete swill! I suppose their Meritage blend includes H20 and sweat from a goat, because this is one watery, stinky vintage.

I'm too cheap to throw the last 9 bottles away, so I suspect I'll drag these to parties (mixed with a couple of good bottles) and secretly add them to my friends' collections.

Shame on World Market for ever offering this crap. If they keep this up, they'll lose all of my business to Costco. (At least the Costco wine buyers seem to care about quality.)

Comment on 2007 Seghesio Zinfandel Sonoma

I love this wine! I brought the 2006 to a zin blind wine tasting event a year ago, and it won! There were 10 of us, and we were allowed to bring any price point of zin we wanted... I was pretty psyched when this one won and beat out the more expensive Ridges and Rombauers that others brought. ;)

Comment on 2007 MontGras Reserva Carmenere

Had this...loved it

Comment on 2006 Stratton Lummis Artists' Series Carneros Chardonnay

Interesting fact about this winery. They source cabernet sauvignon grapes from the same vineyards that Caymus Special Select is sourced from. So, I figure they are getting their chard grapes from somewhere close to the floor of the Napa Valley, probably Oak Knoll, or Stags Leap.
If you can find the 2003 or 2004 cab, buy one to drink and one to cellar. I tasted the 2005 (current release) the other day, and it is showing well, but needs to lay down for a couple years before it will really be there. I havent tried the chard, but if I come across it, I will definately pick it up. In my opinion, one of the better winerys' that nobody knows about.

Comment on 2004 Archery Summit Dundee Hills Arcus Estate Pinot Noir

Boy would I like another go at this one!

Comment on Riondo Prosecco Veneto

The Riondo Prosecco Veneto I am drinking as I write this is truly a joy as an aperitif. Not a touch of sharpness; interesting enough for real fans of reds, but accessible for those who just want something tasty. We served this wine at my wedding, it was quite a crowd pleaser!
